INTERNATIONAL DAY OF…
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FORESTS
March 21, 2025
Too precious to lose
When wedrink a glass of water, write in a notebook, take medicine for a fever or builda house, we do not always make the connection with forests. And yet, these andmany other aspects of our lives are linked to forests in one way or another.
Forestsustainable management and their use of resources are key to combating climatechange, and to contributing to the prosperity and well-being of current andfuture generations. Forests also play a crucial role in poverty alleviation andin the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs). Yet despite all these priceless ecological, economic, social and healthbenefits, global deforestation continues at an alarming rate.
Wood helpsto provide bacteria-free food and water in many kitchens, build countlessfurniture and utensils, replace materials as harmful as plastic, create newfibers for our clothes and, through technology , be part of the fields ofmedicine or the space race.
It isvital to consume and produce wood in a more environmentally friendly way forthe planet and its inhabitants. Let’s protect this easily renewable resourcewith a sustainable management of forests.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF…
INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ZERO WASTE
March 30, 2025
Addressing the waste crisis
Humanity’s unsustainable production and consumption practices are driving the planet towards destruction.
Households, small businesses and public service providers generate between 2.1 billion and 2.3 billion tons of municipal solid waste every year – from packaging and electronics to plastics and food. However, global waste management services are ill-equipped to handle this, with 2.7 billion people lacking access to solid waste collection and only 61–62 per cent of municipal solid waste being managed in controlled facilities. Humanity must act urgently to address the waste crisis.
The second annual International Day of Zero Waste highlights both the critical need to bolster waste management globally and the importance of sustainable production and consumption practices. It celebrates zero-waste initiatives at all levels, which contribute to the advancement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. https://www.un.org/en/observances/zero-waste-day
